FAQ

Will my amplifier mate well with Studio Electric Speakers?

While it is not possible for us to have hands on knowledge of every amplifier available, we can say that our M4, M5, and M6 loudspeakers present a friendly impedance curve, making them compatible with most amplifiers, but they require at least 30 watts to perform correctly. 50 watts or more is recommended. We do not discourage owners from using large amplifiers. There is no such thing as too powerful an amplifier. Just use caution. The speaker will tell you (audible distortion) when it’s approaching its limits.

What is the break-in period?

Though some burn-in is required, your speakers should sound pretty darn good right out of the box. The crossover capacitors stabilize quickly. The woofer compliance takes a bit longer. Typically, most of the break-in occurs within 30 hours with subtle changes occurring in the 30-50 hour range.

What are you speaker placement recommendations?

Interaction with your room can have a dramatic effect on the sound. Sealed systems like the M4 and M5 are generally more room-friendly than ported speakers but your room will have a say in what the system sounds like. The best advice we can give is take some time to experiment. Move the speakers incrementally, and don’t be afraid of using a bit of toe-in.

Do I need a sub-woofer?

All Studio Electric models have good low frequency extension. In many cases a subwoofer is not needed. When using a sub, use a low crossover point (below 50 Hz)

What speaker stands should I use?

It depends on the speaker model and also your listening position. Call us and tell us about your set-up we can offer guidance.

Do you have a trade-in program?

M4 loudspeakers can usually be traded toward larger models with a significant credit.
